Are We Less Grateful

Thoughts on Deaf Side. "We're in much better place than before with accommodation needs and communication access. Are we taking them for granted?"

  1. Many do take our access for granted and are complacent, if they had memories going back 20 or more years they would not be as complacent. However access IS a right not a favour, and there are ways to campaign for it, that don't show us up as boorish, over aggressive, ignorant and ungrateful.

We have rights but there are ways and ways of stating those rights. It varies by area and institution, some will not respond to the softly softly approach others will ONLY respond to it. Grateful no, but appreciate where people are putting themselves out to assist is basic manners, and no need to attack them.

Frankly I know of NO real campaigns for 'Deaf' access here in many years, it does seem as if most are happy with what is there, and looking forward to more, there are still great inequalities where it counts, not so much in access, but deaf rights are still at the bottom of most lists, but younger deaf mistake access for deaf rights, NOT The same thing at all !
